Artist Statement

My paintings exist between the artificial experience of space and the space of authentic experience. In experiencing the work, physical proximity becomes an authentic act; approaching the painting is to engage in a visual dialogue on artifice that is articulated through the rhythm of pattern, the emotion of color and the illusion of a picture plane. The relationship formed between the viewer and artwork is heightened by the fluctuation of the paintings appearance?one that cycles between real and illusory, static and active?a synthetic action of form, movement and context.
