Artist Statement

Trish Tillman combines home relics and furniture parts to construct private memorials and characters. They are present like furniture, but are non-functional, and as such, become unsettling talismans or companions. 'Daddy High Pants' is a portrait of grandfather, spied on through the closet mirror. WWII flasks are the knobby knees, or golden balls, that dangle costume charms between a set of rocking chair legs. 'Dirty Dip' is a dollhouse papered in outdated patterns. A bruised banana up top and a shiny turd happily sunbathing in a sea of golden lava are the child's liberated dirty longings.
