Artist Statement

My work takes its cues from visual perception, perhaps calling to mind naturalistic form, depth, light, and so on- though they're not representational per se. I'm interested in the way the mind tries to find a meaningful signal, even where only noise exists.

As to how I make them, they are paint on canvas, but imagine a process more akin to a developing photograph or clay thrown on a potter's wheel. Some of the paintings consist of only a brush stroke or two- the end of a long process of making and remaking.

The Guestbook

markley.boyer says: I thought that these were stunning. A very successful blend of the gestural and the carefully worked. I loved the way they suggested 3-dimensionality while remaining completely abstract. The artist has been working methodically on this technique and explolring it in great detail and I found each new iteration to be very rich and suggestive.
