Artist Statement
By pairing materials of disparate physical properties, I am establishing an evolving relationship. One in which the inherent nature of an element works to alter, contrast, enhance, stabilize or degrade another. The exterior surface deceptively defines the whole while the interior directly alters the outer shell through extrusion, staining, bloating, cracking and splitting. This work surveys the process of that relationship and the nature of its harmony or discord as it is exposed to gravity and time.
