Artist Statement

My artwork has always been influenced by the experiences in my life and by the interaction between my emotions and my materials. I sometimes start with drawings, but often my sculptures emerge from, and are dictated by this interaction. Over the years I have worked in metal, wood, and cement, but I have always loved the spontaneity and feel of clay, and its organic nature. It allows me to express myself in a very direct and immediate way. Adding glazes and encaustic paints to the pieces is often like painting with fire,
