Artist Statement

Taking structural cues from Jacques Lacan's diagram of The Gaze, the Looking Out project considers the nature of how we see ourselves in relationship to all that we observe, from the expanse of the physical world to the microcosm of social media. We are the viewer and the viewed, yet we manage to displace and even remove ourselves in an attempt to satisfy the internal/external equation with an illusion of balance.
