Artist Statement

My work draws from my experiences as a person of color and addresses notions of ambiguity and otherness through site-specific objects and interventions. Simultaneously presenting an image and what it becomes serves as a way to examine the moment of separation, transformation, and becoming evident in identification--it is both a teapot, but also lacks teapot-ness. Meaning is gained from our understanding of a particular object, but what does the reference mean? How is a representation of an object interpreted?
