Artist Statement
3000 Buddha
The number 3000 comes from the 3000 bowing practice in Korean Buddhism. The number results from repeating the 108 bows1 ten times to bow 1080 times, which is again repeated three times to total 3240 bows. The 3240 bows is casually referred to as 'sam chun bae', which translates to 3000 bows. This installation parallels the qualities that generate from the repetitive actions of bowing.
