Artist Statement

I am made of many things, many parts and many types of parts. Some are very old, some very new. They live together, running in parallel, redundancy and, sometimes, in opposition. I combine biology and oil painting to explore the tension between a perceived need for continuity/identity and the natural state of discontinuity in the body and mind. This includes: the body as form or fill; the negative space of the body; identity and the transient body and transient mind; tension between aging and youth, between cancer and aging; decision-making at the level of the cell.
