Artist Statement

My paintings reflect my desire for a personal Arcadia and consequently their sense of place and appreciation for the natural environment is resonant. I often employ figures or evidence of human presence. I am interested in the edge of human industry and nature. I work from photographic references taken from my travels and experiences. While these works might get kick-started by memory, they are always about experiencing the present; a space to enter into, navigate, to feel, and contemplate. I like non-linear narratives. I also favor large (9 foot oil canvases) and small (5 x 7 inch gouache drawings).
