Artist Statement

"Crush" is an edition of ten compacted, life-size figurative sculptures. The 20” high compressed figures look as though they have gone through an egg slicer but with missing slices. The form is created by tracing an MRI of a standing human body. These shapes are transferred to 1/4" Sintra slabs and then cut, sanded, and pounded together. The final sculptures are arranged on the ground in loose relational groups. Viewers can wander freely around them. Also on view will be numerous drawings based on the shapes I have been working with in "Crush."
