Artist Statement
I make ecstatic, thoughtful mixed-media artworks of narrative and sensuality. Novelistic storytelling and intuitive abstract painting fuse in pieces layered with photographs, paint, and found objects applied in diverse ways.
I see my pieces as the post-modern equivalents of icons, memory gardens or totem poles; objects in which a viewer finds and explores systems of interpretation and meaning in dialogue with the artwork. I seize the anonymous debris of contemporary life - advertisements, litter, media images - and transform them into matrices of subjective symbolism.

mrmount says: GAVIN IS ONE OF THE MOST INTELLIGENT, CREATIVE, PASSIONATE & PROLIFIC ARTIST I'VE EVER MET AND I HAVE MET MANY SINCE I STARTED COLLECTING ART. I OWN 4 OF HIS WORKS. HIS PAINTINGS/COLLAGES ARE INTRICATE, COLORFUL, THOUGHT PROVOKING AND TIMELESS. HIS WORKS ARE SO READY FOR THE BROOKLYN MUSEUM. THE QUESTION IS: IS THE BROOKLYN MUSEUM READY HIM ? THE ANSWER: MOST DEFINITELY.
