Artist Statement

My recent paintings are allegorical scenarios involving a cast of invented animal characters. These works depict psychological states, personal and political power struggles, and environmental concerns. The characters often represent conflicting forces, at times crude, violent, error ridden, addled, or gentle. My intention is to make painterly records of them with as much sympathy as possible.

The works on paper are cobbled together bits and pieces: sewn up scraps of limbs, spaces, features, surfaces. The process is a kind of galvanizing: bringing life to forms wrought from combined parts, Frankenstein-like experiments, grotesque and familiar.
