Artist Statement
These works represent examples from the last couple of years. They include oil paintings on wood panels and ink drawings on paper and mylar .My work is grid based, either explicit or implicit. I paint in an intuitive, meditative and deliberate way erasing and layering over time. I am interested in light and movement and the interaction of structure and gesture, chance and control, openness and containment. Some of my inspiration derives from the light and landscape of the Gowanus neighborhood I see out my studio windows.
The Guestbook
juddls says: Like a sculptor who lets the stone speak, Emily listens to the wood and lets it sing, and we are allowed in on a very intimate song.

emily.goodman.965 says: I don't even like modern, abstract art or grids, but I quite loved these pieces. They have wonderful texture that doesn't show up in the reproductions online. This was my biggest surprise pleasure of the GO weekend: liking something I didn't expect to like.
