Doug's studio is one flight up from street level in a brownstone building down the block from Brooklyn Tech with BAM around the corner.
Artist Statement
Theoretically and physically Doug 'excavates' the book, as a phenomenological endeavor, creating hypertexts, as if the text block itself is an archaeological site. He cuts, drills, and gouges books transforming them into visual objects. He regularly lectures on his artwork throughout the US, Canada and Europe, exhibits extensively both nationally and internationally and is in numerous private and public collections. In the fall of 2011 a monograph entitled, Doug Beube: Breaking the Codex: Bookwork, Collage and Mixed Media, was published with an introduction by David McFadden with several articles contributed by well known critics, historians and writers.
