Artist Statement

My work comes through the almost incidental patterns, shapes, and lines that catch my eye as I pass through the built and natural environments around me. Often I am drawn most to things that are worn away, overlooked or left behind, yet become animated through their interplay with the light, space and forms surrounding them. In the studio, I am somehow recreating this experience, creating surfaces and shapes (most recently with painted paper) that can be played with, layered, moved and recombined to form a kind of unexpected visual experience that is greater than the sum of its parts.
