Artist Statement
Heterosexual male desire not the most welcome guest at the party. It helps, if one's fantasy can be construed, at least in part, as a critique of the male gaze.
Heated close-ups of beautiful partly exposed women. Lurking in the background of each is a man with a camera. Each picture updates an ancient myth. At stake is the connection between a psychology of voyeurism, exhibitionism and shame on the one hand, and sensual painting.
Watercolors from my series of "Pirate Gals", pneumatic women in skimpy nautical wear aboard Old World sailing vessels spoofing kitsch with delight.

raidlin says: Don pushes the boundaries of image-making and story-telling in his artwork. His work is always entertaining, intelligent, and lushly and masterfully executed. He combines his own skillfull and insightful artistry with references to works of the old masters of European and American art, as well as to all manner of popular contemporary and older art and media, creating a unique personal language that is often humorous and satirical. He follows his own visual story-telling with as much anticipation and curiosity as his audience, along its journey through the convolutions of the human psyche.
