Artist Statement

A few years ago I began making work that showed two figures together. The challenge: if two figures are together, why are they together, what are they doing, who are they? My recent paintings are the answers. ?I have never practiced realism per se, yet I do want to show what it feels like to live in the world at this time and place. These paintings can be seen as allegories of our shared vulnerability, especially pronounced in this time of economic uncertainty. The people in these pictures both help and harm each other; they struggle, fear, and hope together.
