Artist Statement

Carly Bodnar is a painter and sometimes-printmaker whose work explores ideas about the body and identity, often touching on personal issues involving femininity and femaleness. Lately, this has taken the form of faces and body parts pulled from their usual contexts. Her process is to pick at these ideas like scabs, building up thin layers of paint, obscuring and excavating imagery. The result is messy but cathartic.
