Artist Statement

I work from my family photographs and newspaper images of war. My childhood photographs carry the full charge of a young girl about to step into a secure future. These images sharply contrast with the explosive pictures that haunt our newspapers, capturing a decade of wars in the Middle East.
The oil paintings reconstruct my past and come to grips with our uncertain present, in light of the scorching reality of war. Informing all my work is the religious iconography of my parochial education and the influence of the early Italian Renaissance masters.
