Artist Statement

Paintings, photographs and collage bring the public urban environment into the private space of my studio. Images are drawn from walks through the urban centers of New York City, Chicago and Washington DC. The works digest and reform these images to reveal power dynamics within a complex city structure. The paintings recreate aspects of architecture and urban design in oil paint and the photographs and collages are created using double exposure and manipulation of silver gelatin printing.
