Artist Statement

I make sculptures,drawings and video. I came from Japan in 1993 to the one-year-residency at PS1 museum and have lived in Brooklyn since 1995. my recent sculptures are of mixed media in variable installation, showing process and inviting audience participation. I am especially interested in expressing the feeling of everyday life through the use of common materials. I feel myself to be symbolized by those quiet but necessary materials. During the last ten years I looked after my elderly parents and I tried to connect caregiving with my art and life.
