Artist Statement

Here I focus on the figure, using Muybridge’s study of movement as a point of departure.

I select a photo to be extracted from the original series of action frames, and I place it on a neutral background.

The reading of the action is now quite different from the original as the figure is trapped in a frame, and is desperately trying to get out of it.
This evokes the question of the human condition.
By painting nudes I am making reference to art history, as well as to old master paintings while using the contemporary medium of enamel paint.
