Artist Statement
Humor, horror and the anxiety of being. From tidal waves of No Fishing Signs to Speculative Research Into the Last Rocket to hundreds of off-kilter new figure works, I make what I need to settle my own anxieties about living at the dawn of the anthropocene.

tenten2012 says: Leonard has several intriguing plots in his field of creation. He is a traditional figure artist who has taken the mechanical practice of posed model sketches, and placed the direction into his model's hands. Also taking up video work that pits a lifestyle or attitude against life stories with ironic contradictions. He is also exploring the value of a personal imprint done with ink on matchbox sized objects meant to be given away. He has a letter tucked away into an envelope, and an installation that has serene, yet dour humor about craft and consumption, and a series of "quickies", handpainted signs that tell a viewer to "Stop Fishing." There's an understatement to everything he does, to which he adds a fiercely considered and exact commentary.
