Artist Statement
My work is an intersection of traditional Chinese and abstract painting, where both aspire to lyrically elucidate the human relationship to nature. With a quixotic nod to science my organic forms suggest a micro to macro continuum. My process involves pouring, dripping and brushing paint onto silk in vibrant colors. With attention to formal aspects of modernist painting such as surface, support, and color, I also look to various traditional genres of Chinese painting where images are composed on circular, fan-shaped, or irregularly shaped multi-panel formats. With an emphasis on composition, I strive for evocative works that are compellingly arranged.
