Artist Statement
My paintings are of live events, musicians in performance.
I sit in the audience and start painting as the music begins.
When the performance finishes the painting is complete. Each piece is created in real time related to the music that is being preformed.
My intention is to capture the texture of the music as well as the gesture of musicians.
Painting becomes automatic my thoughts are cleared, notions of how form, color, perspective, texture, compress into perception.
Gesture and cadence form the paintings completion.
