Artist Statement

I make collages of where I want to be, or can't seem to leave. I use scraps of fabric, ribbons, brown paper. I scour magazines for pictures of sky, grass, trees, wallpaper, cute cupboards, wood floors, and window frames. I'm stitching beads from one grandmother's busted necklace onto my other grandmother's girdle. I sewed my grandfather's handkerchief into the shape of his house and quilted it onto a blanket with the flannel shirt he wore when he gardened. I'm making books for kids about sex, death, divorce, being sick, being gay, and getting molested. They're taking me forever.
