Artist Statement
My interests lie with the notion of “Home” in relation to diasporic cultures, particularly that of the Iranian Diaspora. I use thread and/or ink to draw and sew onto paper. Much like embroidery or knitting, I allow chance and repetition to guide the outcome of the drawings. I try to embrace the blindness of the individual repetitive action, which simultaneously is absent-minded and full of concentration. I try to create the familiar through this domestic chore and action. Much like my own Diasporic experience I define my own boundaries and borders blindly.
